Bailey was cautiously looking everywhere. She wasn't usually like this, but she knew she could be in danger if a wild Pokemon tried to attack her before she could have a Pokemon to defend herself with. She didn't yet know what Pokemon the lab offered, but she knew she'd have to pick a good one. A Pokemon that would grow over time, and that would be strong and fearless, like her.
Finally reaching the lab, she looked around. So isolated, but yet, it was a beautiful place. It wasn't very far from Centre Town, but it was far enough to make you a bit tired. She looked in awe at the building, for she was expecting something a little more grand than what she was now seeing. Nonetheless, she knew this was the only way to get her first Pokemon, and so she ambled to the fronts steps. Knocking with three strikes, she anxiously waited for someone to answer, and help her to get her first partner on this journey. She had heard that this lab offered quite a variety of Pokemon, unlike any other lab. I'll have to see about that, myself, she thought doubtfully.

Professor Sampson had been incredibly scattered that entire morning, trying to clean up the mess he had made when opened up a window and a large gust of wind threw the papers around. Swablu would swoop down and grab a beak full of papers and drop them on Sampson`s head. By this point, he had fallen asleep and was covered by a blanket of notes, drawings, and trainer profiles.
Swablu heard somebody at the door and fluttered over to it. It was nearly impossible for her to open the door by herself, so luckily last time Sampson let somebody out, he propped the door open just a hair so she could open it in a case like this. The door squeaked open as soon as her beak wedged into the crack. Sampson shot up like a rocket, the papers went flying all over again. He shrieked.
"Why, Swablu! WHY?!" He quickly got up and shuffled about, trying to figure out what to do with the documents. The door was open, Swablu was actually at the door... it all made sense now! "Oh! A guest! Welcome, welcome! Come right in, yes. Try not to step on the papers if you can please."

Bailey glanced around the lab almost in disgust. Weren't labs supposed to be clean and orderly? This one did not seem to be so. The Swablu had opened the door for her. A Pokemon doing a human's job, how typical.
Stepping completely inside, she saw the problem, and couldn't help smirking. The window was open. Was this old guy really that ignorant to leave a window open while working? Then she took a quick glance at the professor, and he looked as though he had just awoke. 'Great,' she thought. 'A professor that is clumsy enough to fall asleep with the window and door open can't be that great of a help. I shouldn't have done this.'
"Hi," Bailey said plainly. "I'm Bailey Havoc, and I'm sure you know I'm here for my first Pokemon." Bailey was wondering if this man would tell her all of the Pokemon, or if they had them written out, or if he would physically show them to her. Either way, she couldn't wait to get this over with and start training her new Pokemon.

Sampson smiled at the girl as she entered the incredibly messy lab. He dug through some papers, and found a list which had the smeared names of all of the pokemon on them. He squinted, and couldn`t read any of it himself. He lifted the paper into the air, and Swablu swooped down, grabbed it, then dropped it in the garbage can. The blue bird circled back, then landed on Sampson`s darker blue haired hair.
"Nobody ever just comes in to visit. But no matter!" The professor looked around for a pokeball, and pressed the button in the middle. Out came a bulbasaur. "Hey Bulbasaur, can you help Swablu out while I get this young lady a pokemon? Thanks." Bulbasaur nodded, its long vines came out from its shoulders and began to pick up papers, Swablu helped as well.
"Alrighty then, do you have any idea of what pokemon you might want? I`ll just list them off real quick, so if you change your mind you know what else is here." Sampson began, then he cleared his throat as the long list began. "We have Charmander, Cyndaquil, Torchic, Chimchar, Magby, Squirtle, Piplup, Mudkip, Totodile, Poliway, Bulbasaur..."
The grass pokemon looked up and tilted its head, "Bulb... bulbasaur?"
Sampson shook his head and continued, Chikorita, Treeko, Seedot, Turtwig, Pichu, Pachirisu, Plusle, Minun, Mareep, Happiny, Buneary, Meowth, Igglybuff, Cleffa, Ralts, Spoink, Chingling, Abra, Starly, Spearow, Taillow........"
He took a moment to pause after the incredibly long string of pokemon names. Bulbasaur and Swablu were making the place much less messy. Bulbasaur would gather stacks of paper with its vines then would scoop them up and set them into a box.
"Where were we... oh yes, Machop, Mankey, Meditite, and our newest three additions, Geodude, Larvitar, and finally Bonsly. Take your time to pick."

Bailey watched as the two Pokemon cleaned up. 'So he has the Pokemon to correct the mistake he made. That's awful,' she thought. Though the two worked great together, she still found shame in this situation. She was barely listening to the professor as he quickly called off all the Pokemon they had to offer. She thought she heard him say Machop, but this was very vague, as she was more concerned with the other two Pokemon here.
When the mess of papers were all picked up, she turned to the professor. Tilting her head ever so slightly, she squinted her eyes in curiosity and asked, "Did you say Machop?" Bailey would have loved a Machop for her first Pokemon, for it meant that she was one step closer to getting all of her dream Pokemon. A Machamp was one of her favorite, needless to say a Tauros, which was what she grew up with. Many would think she would have fell in love with the Ponyta and Rapidash, too, but she had no need for fire Pokemon. They were too stubborn and could easily be beaten by water types. The way she figured it, shy or hyper people picked water types, and stubborn and headstrong type people would pick fire Pokemon. She was a fighter, and so she would pick a fighter. The Machop would be the perfect Pokemon for her, and she would always be at the top. Only the ones that had too many dreams they couldn't tell them apart would pick flying types, and those were the people with no real lives, in her opinion. But her Machop would grow to be stronger than its counterparts, the flying types. She would make sure of that.

Sampson nodded his head when she mentioned the pokemon Machop. It was somewhat surprising that a girl would ask for that particular pokemon, normally guys would pick Fighting type pokemon. They had several of the pokemon, in both genders due to the fact that they weren`t that popular of a choice. Most new trainers wanted fire pokemon, especially Charmander. Every once in awhile Sampson helped a trainer obtain a pokemon that was very unusual for a first time trainer, and this was probably just one of those cases.
"Indeed I did, we have both males and females." He told her as Bulbasaur and Swablu finished gathering the papers, the professor would sort them out later but right now he was busy. Swablu landed on Bulbasaur and the two walked around happily, they never minded doing work for the Professor. For Bulbasaur, it meant he didn`t have to sit in a pokeball for any longer.

Bailey's face lit up with joy. She wasn't one to usually show her enthusiasm, but this was fantastic. She loved the idea that her first Pokemon would be one of the strongest. She had already forgotten any other Pokemon he may have said, she was too busy thinking of a name for him.
"Oh! Of course I'd want a male!" Bailey said as if the professor should have known. She glanced at the two happy Pokemon that were now seemingly playing, and she had to giggle. Though she loved to see Pokemon happy, she didn't think they should be playing in a place like this. There was time for that in the outside world, where there was room for them to run and not break anything. However, Bailey also noticed that these two Pokemon seemed very well trained, and happy to be lab assistants. 'To each their own,' she thought to herself.

The Professor headed into the back room, which was very very neat and well kept. There wasn`t a single paper out of place, probably because Sampson only went into that particular room to punch in a number on the large machine and grab the pokeball that came out. That particular time, he typed in the number 040 M. It only took a moment for a pokeball to pop out. Meanwhile Bulbasaur and Swablu were playing tag, the bird pokemon flew after her green colored companion. The grass type pokemon turned its head to see where Swablu was and nearly crashed into a filing cabinet. He was only an inch or two short of smashing into it, which would explode like a volcano of paper. Sampson had gathered up the supplies for two different backpacks. He planned to just let her pick which ever of the two she wanted. The first one had a little paper 1 taped two it, while the second had a paper 2 taped to it. The professor held out the pokeball and set the backpacks on his desk, now covered in very detailed sketches of different types of pokemon. There was also a file open, with her name and a couple of other observations on it. Sampson wrote Machop under the words 'Starter Pokemon'. "You may take one of these backpacks with you, so pick wisely."Name: Your Choice Gender: Male Level: 5 Abilities: Guts & No Guard Attacks: Low Kick, Leer Name: Your Choice Gender: Male Level: 5 Abilities: Guts & No Guard Attacks: Low Kick, Leer

Bailey gasped and felt as though she could have had a heart attack if the Bulbasaur had crashed into the filing cabinet. As soon as she was done here, she would let the professor know what she thought of those two playing in the lab, how dangerous it could be.
Bailey couldn't believe her eyes when she saw the pokeball that contained her Pokemon. She was almost too excited to contain her energy, and needless to say, she had a huge grin plastered on her face. "Thanks so much!" she told him. She looked at the two packs, and decided to pick the second one. She wasn't a contest-goer and so she didn't need to accessorize herself, much less her Pokemon. She had no need whatsoever to look pretty. The only thing she wore as far as accessories was a hat. "I'll take the second one, the one without the scarves. I'm not into that stuff."

Sampson handed her the backpack that she requested and put the other behind his desk. The professor was glad to see that she had a sudden change of heart, at first she didn`t seem like the most friendly girl, but now she was acting like a whole different person after she got her first pokemon.
He really didn`t have much else to say to her since there was nothing further he had for her. She had her pokemon, and now her backpack full of supplies. Sampson crossed his arms. The door creaked open and his Nephew Leon came inside. A little female Larvitar waddled in after him with a big smile on her face. Over the teenagers shoulder was a backpack filled with pokeballs for starter pokemon, the Larvitar wasnt his own pokemon but he took her out to help.
"Well I think thats it, I hope you enjoy your new pokemon as well as your new adventure!"

Bailey smiled as she looked down at the pokeball with her Machop in it once more. She gladly took the backpack and thanked the professor quickly. With a quick turn of the heel, Bailey was bolting out the door and down the steps. She looked around at the beautiful scenery, and scoffed at herself. She was already softening up a little bit. She couldn't let that happen.
Calling out her Machop, she laughed. "Hey, bud. You're going with me on my journey. I'm going to train you to be the best you can be, alright? But in return, I want you to do the best you can for me, as well. Is that a deal?"
The Machop wasn't giddy, but he was respectful. He nodded sincerely to his new trainer, and walked towards Route 1, not lagging even one step behind her. He kept the same stride she did, and that's how it would be for a long time to come.
